Volunteers are the core of IHN! Training, orientation, written guidelines and support are provided for all volunteers.
  1. Hospitality: Volunteers provide hospitality to IHN guest families through their congregations. Volunteers of all ages are welcome!

    Contact Sarah Cruise at 216-325-1385 for more information about hosting.

    Host congregations participate by inviting IHN guests into their congregations 3 to 4 weeks in a year, providing overnight hospitality and meals. There are 3 hospitality jobs:
    1) cooking and hosting dinner;
    2) spending the evening with guest families;
    3) sleeping overnight in a separate area in the host congregation.

    Each host congregation has a Hospitality Leadership Team with two volunteer coordinators and volunteers in charge of the menu, activities, supplies, and set-up/take-down.

    Support congregations send volunteers to a nearby hosting congregation to help provide hospitality. Support congregations are led by a team of two volunteer coordinators.

  2. Welcome Home: Volunteers collect donated furniture, gather household supplies for guest families and help transport furniture to guest homes, usually the third Saturday of the month.

  3. IHN 360 Family Support: Volunteers (or congregations) make a 6 month commitment to help a guest family during and afer their IHN stay. Partnering requires a three-hour training and a volunteer background check.

  4. Jump Start Training: Training classes provided for guest families include: budgeting, employment preparation, resume writing, landlord-tenant relations, nutrition, workplace communications and more.

  5. HOPE field trips: Weekend field trips with guest families that are ideal for congregation-based groups or individual families.

  6. Just Neighbors: Volunteers can lead this easy-to-use, multi-media workshop on the root causes of poverty in their congregation or organization.

  7. IHN Angels: Volunteers provide much needed help to IHN by handyman, office angel, working as a back-up van driver, and helping with fund raising events.
